The position is in the Legal Department of a private subsidiary of a foreign public company focused on the acquisition, development and operation of retail, mixed-use and multifamily assets in the urban cores of Boston, New York City, Philadelphia, and Miami. The company has acquired approximately $800 million for its own account since forming in 2017 and is seeking an experienced paralegal to join the team in the New York, NY office. This position will report directly to the Vice President & General Counsel and will work on a broad range of transactional commercial real estate matters relating to leasing, acquisition, financing, development, and asset management of a growing urban focused real estate portfolio. Preferred candidate should have at least 6 years of experience in commercial leasing and/or commercial real estate transactional matters. We are seeking a candidate that has excellent drafting/analytical skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team. RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating lease agreements, lease amendments and license agreements.
  • Prepare lease abstracts and coordinate and manage lease administration process.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of documents that concern real estate matters to support the asset management and operations departments.
  • Assist with preparation of acquisition and financing related documentation.
  • Coordinating and managing closing logistics and post-closing matters.
  • Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating access agreements, management agreements, service agreements and confidentiality agreements.
  • Assist with handling day to day real estate matters that arise from our leases, including, enforcing lease rights and address lease operational and monetary defaults.
  • Assist with preparation, organization, and management of corporate entity formation documentation and operating agreements.



REQUIRED SKILLS:


  • 6+ years of experience at a law firm or real estate company with commercial leasing and commercial real estate transactional experience; preferably with the majority of that experience handling complex and routine commercial leasing and related matters.
  • Enthusiastic and proactive attitude and willingness to step in where needed in a fast-paced growing and startup environment.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of attention to detail and professionalism.
  • Able to problem solve, resolve, and close open issues and assist colleagues with resolving issues that arise.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven track record of learning quickly, taking initiative, working proactively and being resourceful.
  • Excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail and ability to prioritize and work independently.
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively and independently.
  • Highly motivated self-starter comfortable working in person, remotely, or in a hybrid environment (although please note this is not a remote role, and the position will be in the NYC office full-time).
  • Admission to New York State Bar or ability to register as an in-house counsel.
  • Paralegal Certificate preferred
  • Notary Public
